Old Norse Dictionary - fjöl-móði

Meaning of Old Norse word "fjöl-móði" (or fjǫl-móði)

As defined by the Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse to English dictionary:

fjöl-móði (fjǫl-móði)
a, m. the sea-snipe, tringa maritima, so called from its wailing note, Edda (Gl.); hence fjölmóða-víl, n. pitiful wailing, vide Ísl. Þjóðs. pref. p. xi.
