Meaning of Old Norse word "lög-garðr" (or lǫg-garðr)

As defined by the Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse to English dictionary:

lög-garðr (lǫg-garðr)

m. a lawful fence, as prescribed in law as to height and thickness. Grág. ii. 262, 266, 267.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, lög-garðr may be more accurately written as lǫg-garðr.
