m. a ‘stand-saddle,’ high saddle, Ld. 274. Sturl. iii. 163; such a saddle is described in Mr. Freeman’s Norman Conquest, iv, p. 703 (the death of William).

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, stand-söðull may be more accurately written as stand-sǫðull.
