[Engl. skit; cp. skúta, skat-yrðask; the skœt- refers to a lost strong verb skat, skót]:—a skit, scoff, taunt; af skætingu viltú svara oss ok spotti, Rd. 311; svara þér skætingu, Ld. 34; alls þú mér skætingu einni svarar, Hbl. 59: cp. the mod. phrase, hann svaraði mér í skætingi.
