f. a turf-hole, peat-pit, Grág. ii. 338; kirkja á tvítuga t. í Nesland, Vm. 39; eptir mýrinni fyrir sunnan Molastaða torfgrafir, Dipl. v. 25; Haraldr jarl ungi féll við torf-grafir nökkurar, Orkn. 476 (referring to the Orkneys).

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, torf-gröf may be more accurately written as torf-grǫf.
