in., gen. leygjar and leygs, [akin to logi], a lowe, fire, flame, freq. in old poetry, singly as well as in compds, but never used in prose; esp. freq. in poët. circumlocutions of gold and weapons; báru-leygr, the waves’ beam = gold; arm-leygr, the flasb of the arm = a bracelet; und-leygr, the flash of a wound, of blood, of Odin, etc. = a weapon, see Lex.
