G. l. i. 240; þá skal lög fyrir lóð festa, 154; ef lóð eða bú berr í erfð, 216; á landsdrottinn í lóðinni svá mikit sem húsit metzk, Gþl. 330, 331, Jb. passim. In mod. usage lóð means the ground, esp. on which houses are built, but that this was not the true old sense is clear from the above passage, as is stated by Pál Vídal., s. v. lóð; cp. also lóð-bruni, lóð-torfa, below.
