n., dat. lyngvi, Fm. 21, 28, 29, mod. lyngi; gen. pl. lyngva, Fms. v. 234 (in a verse), Eg. (in a verse); [A. S. and Engl. ling; Dan. lyng]:—ling, heather, not only in the English sense, but also of whortle on which berries grow; lyng is smaller than hrís, q. v.; skríða um lyng, Fms. vii. 251; lyng mikit var par ok ber á, there was much bush with berries on, O. H. L. 67, and so in mod. usage; whence hrútaberja-lyng, bláberja-lyng.
