t, [cp. lopt], to lift, raise, with acc.; lyptandi sínar hendr, Mar.: with dat., síðan lypti hón kápu-hetti hans, Fms. i. 149; gékk konungr þar til ok lypti upp tjaldinu, 158; hann lypti upp kettinum, Edda; lypta brúnum, to lift the eyebrows, shew gladness:—metaph., lypta ferð, to start on a journey, Fms. x. 6; lyptir nú Jóram sínum her, Stj. 610; má ek engum her héðan lypta, Fms. viii. 22.

II. impers. it is lifted up, raised; mér var þat enn mesti harmr, er þessum stormi var lypt, Þiðr. 326; lyptir þá mjök brúnum manna, the men’s eyebrows were lifted up, their faces brightened, Fs. 26.

3 LYPTA

III. reflex. to move, stir; þá tók hann til hennar, ok lyptisk hón ekki, Landn. 151; lézk hann ekki mundu þaðan lyptask fyrr en á bak Jólum, Fms. viii. 16S; lyptisk þeim þá lítt reiði, their anger was raised a little, Fbr. 137.
