m., steggi, a, m. [prop. a mounter; in Yorks. a steg is a gander; from stíga, cp. seggr from segja, hugga from hugr]:—a he-bird; andar steggi, a male duck, Karl. 260 (Dan. andrik): in mod. usage steggr also means a tom-cat.
