G. l. i. 24 (Gþl. 484, Jb. 351); vega salt, to balance against one another. In Norway and Icel. salt was chiefly procured by burning seaweed, cp. ‘brenndum brúk á sandi,’… hinn þríði var upp á berginu ok brenndi þara, Frissb. 255; also from the sea, cp. Þorst.
