Old Norse Dictionary - löskr

Meaning of Old Norse word "löskr" (or lǫskr)

As defined by the Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse to English dictionary:

löskr (lǫskr)
adj., acc. löskvan, [cp. Engl. lazy; in early Swed. loska-mader = a bachelor, loska-kona = a spinster, loska-læghe = stuprum; cp. Swed. losk, Dan. luske, and Icel. lið-leskja]:—weak, idle; löskvan láð-mann, Fas. ii. (in a verse); löskr mun hann æ heitinn, Am. 57; löskvan þátt, the weak side (in a moral sense), Harms. 13.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, löskr may be more accurately written as lǫskr.
