The cutting of horse’s manes was a favourite amusement in olden times, cp. man-skæri, mane-scissors, mön-skurðr, m. a mane-cutting, Gullþ. 22.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, mön may be more accurately written as mǫn.
