The old form is contracted before -ir, -ar, -an, -um, etc., and changes g into k; almáttkan, -kir, -kum (now almáttugan, -ugir, -ugum, through all cases), v. máttigr: used of God, FmS. i. 231, Eluc. 10, SkS. 305, etc.: heathen use, Landn. 258, cp. p. 335.
