m., pl. spelir, gen. spala, acc. spölu (the gen. spalar and dat. speli hardly occur); [cp. Fr. espalier]:—a rail, bar, lattice-work; smugu þeir milli spalanna, Edda 30; ró-spölr, q. v.: bring-spelir (q. v.), ‘breast spars.’
