n. room for the tiller to work so as to veer the ship; sigla svá nær at eigi sé sveifrúm, N. G. L. ii. 281, Jb. 396; sveifingar-rúm, 396 B: svif-rúm, N. G. L. l. c. (v. l. 8, 11), whence mod. svig-rúm: room to move the body freely, eg hafði ekki svigrúm til þess.
