From wearing lace and bracelets a woman is in poetry called hlað-grund, hlað-nipt, hlað-norn, hlað-guðr; a distinction is made between gull-hlað, gold lace, which was worn round the head, esp. by ladies, but also by men, Orkn. 280 old Ed., FmS. ii. 264, iv. 72, vii. 34, and silki-hlað, silk lace, a ribbon:—hlað belongs also to a priestly dress, Vm. 31, 38, 77, DipL. iii. 4.
