n. a swoon, fainting-fit, Bs. ii. 230; at hann féll í öngvit, en er hann vitkaðisk, Fms. vi. 230, Fbr. 20 new Ed.; ef maðr er lostinn í öngvit, Grág. ii. 16; ok er af henni hóf öngvit, Bjarn. 68 (óvit, Glúm. 368), freq. in mod. usage.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, öng-vit may be more accurately written as ǫng-vit.
