f. a part of a sword, it is not exactly known which, perh. = friðbönd (q. v.), Edda; á valböstu (acc. pl.) verpr naðr hala, Hkv. Hjörv. 9: dat. valböstum, Sdm.: gen. valbasta, Geisli.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, val-böst may be more accurately written as val-bǫst.
