[from Old Fr. muter; Engl. to mute, moult; the Lat. mutatus is a hawk that has been in the muta (Fr. mue, Engl. mews), and has done moulting]:—of a hawk that has moulted; einn hinn fríðasti gáshaukr með fögrum fótum, svá sem hann væri fimm sinnum eða sex mútaðr, Str. 75, where the French original has mues; þúsund gáshauka mútaða, Karl. 485.
