Ör-skipti

Old Norse Dictionary - ör-skipti

Meaning of Old Norse word "ör-skipti" (or ǫr-skipti)

As defined by the Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse to English dictionary:

ör-skipti (ǫr-skipti)
n. pl. eccentricity, strange affairs; hence örskipta-maðr, an eccentric, overbearing person, Lv. 27 (cp. the context); inir mestu örskipta menn, violent men, Eb. 110, Fb. i. 250; segja frá nokkurs-konar örskiptum frá kynslum eða undrum, to relate strange things, wonders and marvels, Þiðr. 4.

Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, ör-skipti may be more accurately written as ǫr-skipti.
