Meaning of Old Norse word "þjökka" (or þjǫkka)
As defined by the Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse to English dictionary:
- þjökka (þjǫkka)
- að, [þykkr, m.; cp. A. S. þaccian; Chaucer to thack], to thwack, thump, beat, chastise, = þjaka, q. v.; þjökka skal hræsinn nið með hrísi, whack a self-willed son with the rod, Sighvat. (see hríS.)
Orthography: The Cleasby & Vigfusson book used letter ö to represent the original Old Norse vowel ǫ. Therefore, þjökka may be more accurately written as þjǫkka.
