m. a love song, Eg. 325. Bs. i. 165, Edda 16; esp. in the old law a kind of love libel, liable to outlawry, Grág. ii. 150, Fb. iii. 242: in mod. usage the lyrical introduction to the epic rhapsodies or ballads (rímur) is called mansöngr, for originally they were addressed to the poet’s lady-love, Skald H. 6. 1, Skíða R. 1, and in countless instances, e. g.
