adj. one who holds out longest, lasting, durable; skjöldr þjokkr ok þolinn, Karl. 97: enduring, þrekinn ok þolinn við vás ok erviði, Róm. 330, Fms. ii. 69: of one who never gets exhausted, never loses his breath, of a runner, horse, or the like, minn hestr er þolnari en þinn.
