a, m. a palmer, pilgrim, Orkn. 176; for the palmers, when they came to the river Jordan, used to carry a palm in the hand and a cross on the breast, bartú þaðan pálm í hendi en kross á bringu, Fms. vii. 160; kross hangir þul þessum fyrir brjósti, en pálmr meðal herða, a cross hangs on this wise man’s breast, and a palm between his shoulders, Orkn. (in a verse). pálmara-vegr, m. the palmer’s way, i. e. the road to Palestine, Fms. ix. 417.
