gen. -viðjar, the ‘steer-withies,’ steerage-ropes, by which the rudder is worked instead of a tiller, Edda (Gl.) i. 583, v. l. 7; nú brestr í sundr stjórnviðin, ok gengr frá stýrit, Þiðr. 313; stjór-viðjar (gen. sing.), Edda (in a verse).
