2. n. pl. [A. S. hleor; Hel. hlear; Engl. leer], a cheek, Edda 72; hlýra skúrir, tears, Ísl. ii. 352 (in a verse): metaph. of things, of a vessel, the bows (cp. Gr. παρεία, and kinnungr from kinn, a cheek), Edda (Gl.), Fms. iv. 377, Lex. Poët.

(in a verse), Edda i. 392 (in a verse): in mod. usage the sides of a knife are called hlýrar, as also the two sides of a bodice.
