Ulf. hlifan = κλέπτειν, hliftus = κλέπτης; perh. also Scot. to lift, = to steal cattle, belongs to this root, and is not the same as lift = tollere]:—a thief; hlennar ok hvinnar, thieves and pilferers, Sighvat: a king is in poetry called the foe and destroyer of hlennar, hlenna dólgr, etc., see Lex. Poët.
