f. [from Fr. coif], a coif, cap; hött eðr k., Sks. 434; hött né húfu eða k., 291: esp. a mitre, Fms. viii. 378, Bs. ii. 186: in mod. usage, metaph. a feeble person, hann er mesta kveif: as also kveifara-skapr, m. feebleness; kveifar-legr, adj. (-lega, adv.), weak, faint.
