[skeifr], a horse-shoe, Þiðr. 105; hálf-s., a broken horse-shoe; skafla-s., a sharp-shoe: metaph., það er skeifu-mynd á e-u, it is in the shape of a s., it is crooked, askew, goes wrong, Sturl. ii. 93 (in a verse); mod., það er skeifu-lag á því: as a nickname, Sturl. ii. 120: skeifa is rare in old writers, but is the common word in mod. Icel. use; the ancients said skór, a shoe.
