1. a, m. [Engl. carp; O. H. G. charpho; Germ. karpfe], a kind of fish, a carp, Edda (Gl.): so in the phrase, rauðr sem karfi, red as a k., Flor. 71; karfa-rjóðr, blushing like a goldfish.

2. a, m., botan. cumin, freq. in Norway, Ivar Aasen, but in Icel. this old word appears to be lost.
