u, f. a whip; berja með svipum, Stj. 578, MS. 623. 12; hann hafði svipu í hendi ok keyrði hana, Sd. 185: esp. a horse-whip, svipu-ól, svipu-skapt, the lash, handle of a whip. svipu-leikr, m. a play, ‘swoop-game,’ perh. it should be sviðu-leikr (sviþu-leikr, p having crept in for þ), Fms. iii. 193, 196.
